13 beautiful empties from around Cornwall by Mr B

One of my favourite photos, feels like this shot has a lot of depth to it and is the one I want on my wall. Rare to get such great light.

One of the heaviest days I’ve ever shot anywhere. A sunny Sunday afternoon and a completely empty lineup. Was solid and took me about 15 minutes to find an opening to jump off the rocks to swim out. This was after getting a set on the head, getting washed round then swam back out to see one of the most amazing waves break I’ve ever seen. This is somewhere near where I live and is a special shot for me as it’s the first photo print I ever sold. Also captures the winter feel. One of my favourite photos, feels like this shot has a lot of depth to it and is the one I want on my wall. Rare to get such great light. The was taken on one of the best days I’ve ever seen round where I live, but while waiting for the wind and tide and swell to come together I went round to this spot for the first time. It was pissing rain and miserable but the backwash looked cool. So happy I did because you don’t see to many double barrels like this.Quite simply the day of the decade at home. That’s Ed Smith paddling out. This was on the same day as the double backwash barrel but at a completely different spot. Big, barreling and so much fun. Racked up over 5 hours in the water with shooting and surfing on this February day. This is one of my local beach breaks, and is renowned for being fat and weak, so nice to see it like this now and then.Taken a battering by the storms recently. Not really any good for surfing here, but somewhere I’ve wanted to shoot because of the backdrop. Had to wait for very specific, once a year type conditions. Something I’ve been trying to do is stay away from the more renowned spots and have been trying to find my own little niche. This was taken quite recently during a session with Matz Ginman-Trout and Ed Smith. This was a great morning, sunny, quiet and good people with good vibes. Waves were tricky and unpredictable but every now and then a bomb would come through. Restored my enjoyment of shooting away from home with friendly locals. Thanks Matz. Boxing Day rainbow at my local. Everyone loves a rainbow.Continuing the rainbow theme – there’s been a lot this winter! Another secluded beach I’ve been wanting to shoot for a while.A different angle of home. This four hour session I had to myself and switched from surfing to bodyboarding to shooting about 3 times. With my partner and daughter playing on the beach and barrels to myself for hours it just reminds me of why I love waves. This is a spot that isn’t really surfed, is unpredictable, a scary mix of shorebreak with big rocks randomly scattered, is fickle and a pain in the arse to get to. This shot took a lot of effort and time spent to get, but eventually that one perfect wave came through, and it was a belter. This has been my most popular photo by far. This was the first shot I got that I really thought ‘yep, that’s a good one’. Think this will be in my top 10 shots for a while.
