Adaptive Surfers Shredding In The Mentawais

Here’s a teaser for a brand new film called ‘Alive’, which features four adaptive surf champs on a mission in the Mentawais.

Back in January a group of four physically disabled surfers set off on a two week trip to the Mentawais archipelago in Indonesia, to push their limits and hunt for azure kegs.

The crew comprised of Eric Dargent, who hails from Reunion and lost his leg in a shark attack six years ago, Ismaël Guilliorit, who, after having his foot amputated at birth, has become a pioneer of adaptive surfing,Benoit Moreau who has one arm and hails from the French Basque country and Lacanau based charger Laurent Marouf. 

The boys were also accompanied by coach Manu Portet, emergency physician Thibault Viard as well as photographer Bastien Bonnarme and film maker Valère Caneri, from Horue Movie Production.

‘What does the Mentawai trip mean for me?’ said Benoit when asked about the mission, ‘A big project between friends, with the constraints, to make beautiful images and have beautiful encounters. Then comes the challenge represented by the waves of this archipelago. It will be hard to leave France and my 4/3 in the middle of January to surf in boardshorts, But hey, we should adapt!’
