Albee Layer Throws His Hat Into The Ring For Best Edit Of The Year

Ok, ok. I know we potentially claim best edit of the year so far a tad too often. But wait till you see this.

Admittedly we called Torren Martyn’s unbelievably stylish twin finned journey through Indo a strong contender just last week, but this is incredible for completely different reasons. It stars the most well rounded surfer in the world showing off the full breadth of his talents.

Ridiculous, ground-breaking airs (including a kind of front-flippy thing at 2.01), a solid keg at Jaws and a session at what Albee called the heaviest wave he’s ever surfed, comprise just some of the highlights form this brand new 4 minute banger.

“Last year was a bit of an after thought.” said Dan Norkunas, the man behind Take Shelter Productions, with whom Albee has just released a brand new documentary called Nervous laughter. “Seemed like everyone still had an El Nino hangover and we were neck deep on trying to finalize the documentary. We took breaks from cutting it by filming, but there were no trips, no hyped swells and no real concise thoughts on producing any new edits. Luckily for us this past year still provided unique days and we were able to cut a new piece entitled Black Wave”
