There have already been a few memorable days at Mullaghmore so far this year, both for those looking to paddle and those looking to tow.
We heard a few weeks back that Ireland, and possible Europe’s heaviest, wave had played host to an incredible paddle session, with the line up brimming with international chargers enjoying the fruits of the fiery Irish beast.
Eye witnesses reported that Will Skudin got one of the best paddle barrels ever caught at the spot, and Naxto Gonzalez, Noah Lane and Conor Maguire also paddled into some bombs, however the footage hasn’t yet been very forthcoming.
However there have been three notable clips so far in 2017, and whether or not there is something better sat on a hard drive somewhere, these are not to be sniffed at:
First up this insta-offering from veteran Mully charger Tom Lowe, who was instrumental in bringing Mully to the world’s attention, along with Fergal Smith back in 2011. Tom took a nasty wipeout on a wave at the end of last year, however we’re glad to see him firmly back on the horse and continuing to push the limit of what’s possible to stroke into out there. This clip, which features a few waves, is from a session a few weeks ago:
Next are two tow-in ride of the year entry by local boy Connor Maguire, who is revered internationally for his performance at Mully. This wave was filmed in early Feb and features the pint sized charger casually parking himself in keg you could drive a bus through:
The next features Irishman, Peter Conroy who hails from down south in County Claire. It was filmed on the same day as the previous of Connor and features a similarly gargantuan wall, but without the crazy inside keg:
Hailing from Hossegor, Ben Sanchis has been charging all over the world for yonks, here he is pulling into a hectic double up in a ride of the year entry:
New Yorker Will Skudin has been living out in Ireland for the whole winter, bagging numerous bombs. Here he is paddling into an absolutely crazy one, but unfortunately just coming unstuck:
