The Best Kook Slams Of May A little bit of sadistic entertainment for you this Friday afternoon

It’s been an epic month for Kook Slams, the Insta account dedicated to providing you with your regular dose of surf related fails.

We’ve sifted through the entirety of their May offerings to bring you some of our favourites, to help you while away those final few hours of work before the weekend begins.

First up, this hectic GoPro POV, filmed in Hawaii by Conor Kennedy. You know when you see water shots, featuring perfect barrels breaking over a reef in water so beautifully clear you can see all of its intricacies? Well here’s what it looks like when the surfer in the frame eats shit:

Our next selection features Joao Zik at Itacoatiara beach, just across the estuary from Rio. Joao hurls himself at a section, hits the eject button and does his best floating pixie impression before getting detonated:

Here’s the first of two backwash induced highlights from the month featuring Sydney based sponger Jack Baker looking considerably less casual than the previous clip, as he’s catapulted into space. “I knew I was in strife” he describes of the ordeal “but I didn’t know i’d land in the ER. This wave ruined my day”:

Here’s a perfect demonstration of exactly where you don’t want to end up when playing in a shore-break. In this situation your options are clear; Go for the sprint dive through the face, or turn on your heels and race for the safety of the beach, this couple though, did neither:

The second of our backwash boosts comes features Pat Towersy at Newport Wedge, which has been putting on a real show already this year. What looks like a fairly mellow wave to begin with meets a a sizeable backwash, sending Pat catapulting into the air where he performs a few pirouettes, which are actually fairly graceful considering the circumstances:
