The Best Surf Edits Of 2017

Presenting the very best surfing edits of 2017:

Luke Gartside

29th December 2017

It’s that weird time between Christmas and New Year.

We’re not trying to sell you anything so we won’t call it twixmas. But it’s nice to have a name for it so shall we go with the gooch? We’re in the gooch.

Supposedly it’s a time for reflecting on the year passed and the one about to begin. However for most it’s filled with intermittent attempts at guilt-induced exercise, which quickly give way to the kind of booze and food-filled lounging that have dominated the proceeding four days. For those of you in something akin to that state, we’ve gathered together some of the best surf edits to grace our screens this year for you to gorge on with your Christmas leftovers. In no particular order and with minimal preamble, here they are:

Julian Wilson- Wayward

Filmed over the course of twelve months, this edit proves that Julian Wilson is undoubtedly one of the best high performance surfers in the world.

Ain’t No Wave Pool- Mick Fanning on #TheSearch

In one of the most talked about clips of the year, Mick Fanning travels to an undisclosed location, to surf possibly the most perfect sand-bottomed right hander on the planet, which reportedly has only ever been surfed by three other people.

Torren Martyn In Ocean Motion

Ocean Motion sees Torren Martyn styling his way through palm lined paradise on a strike mission during the Nias swell of the season.

Black Wave // Albee Layer

Featuring a year of highlights captured in between filming missions for ‘Nervous Laughter’ and displaying the full breadth of talents of one of the most well-rounded surfers in the world.

Premium Violence- Featuring Dane Reynolds

An increasingly rare Dane Reynolds banger, released to celebrate the drop of a new range of clothing from his brand, ‘Former’.

Just Now- Jordy Smith

In his first full length film since 2013, Jordy Smith samples the very best of Europe, South Africa, Namibia and Hawaii.
