British Surf Awards 2014 Results

We asked our readers to decide who they wanted to celebrate and what they wanted to shout about. After a glorious summer and a good few waves, the British Surf Awards presented by Wavelength exposes the heroes, the much loved brands and the most exciting products of 2014.

We fancied having a little peak inside all your brain boxes, see what players in the surf industry are working for you, which boards you ride, the wetsuits you trust, the shops you use and the surfers you rate. The results are now in, we’ve put them all together in a handy place, so anyone interested in what the collective minds of Wavelength are thinking, this is the place.

Best British Female Surfer

Both surfer categories were extremely popular with pretty much all the top British guys and girls making an appearance somewhere in the results. After a fantastic year of competitive surfing, Keshia Eyre has had a massive impact on female surfing over the last 12 months, and adds this award to her already impressive list of titles. She’s looking to hit the QS next year, and needs your help.

 

Best British Male Surfer

A surfer who needs no introduction, Mr. Ben Skinner. After a busy week bagging himself 5th place in at the GoPro World Longboard Championship in China, this Cornwall countryman has not been shy of awards this year.

Best British Photographer

As a fitting acknowledge to his huge contribution to Wavelength over the years, Tim Nunn takes the Best Photographer Award.  Y’all be pleased to hear that Tim continues to play a fundamental role in the future of Wavelength, and you can look forward to some more dazzling shots from Mr. Nunn in the next issue.

Best British Videographer

Lots of different opinions on this one, with the top three taking up only 27% of the votes. Still a close one though, with Mikey Smith grabbing a win by only two percent!

Best Global Surf Brand

Best Global Brand took a bit of a surprising turn, with Patagonia snatching the number one spot from O’Neill by only a handful of votes.

Best British Boards

A bit closer to home this time with Best British Boards. The tightest result on the whole survey with Fourth Surfboards and Quiver Surfboards pretty much neck and neck the whole time, Quiver took the lead with ONE VOTE on the last day, making the unrounded results a 18.6% and 19% respectively.

Best International Boards

Next up, it’s Best International Boards. Close call between the top two, Channel Islands were leading for most of the survery, but Firewire Surfboards took the lead with a few days to go.

Best Wetsuit Brand

It seems our fans prefer the feeling of O’Neill neoprene against their skin. Fair enough, they did invent the whole wetsuit thing. Round of applause to Jack. Rip Curl and Xcel came a close second, and although leading the pack for the majority of the poll, O’Neill took it in the last few days to come out number one.

Best British Brand

Cold water specialists, Finisterre took the lead and secured the award for Best British Surf Brand. Recently opening its flagship store in London back in November, the St. Agnes based brand prides itself on its commitment to designing innovative product for cold water surfers around the world.

Best British Surf Shop

Best British Surf Shop was another category that saw a lot of votes and a lot of different responses and opinions. Newquay surf shop Watershed came out on top, collecting 22% of the votes, with Yorkshire’s Secret Spot taking second place with 18%.
