For every coastal dwelling surfer, seemingly taking for granted their close proximity to the ocean, there’s another type of loyal wave fanatic ever hungry for that taste of the surfing pie we all crave, the city surfer. Sometimes overlooked as part of the wider surf community, these landlocked weekend warriors put in far more effort than we might assume.

Getting your fix of waves when you live in Zone 3 takes a fair bit more planning, the mortal enemy of surfing. We all know the fickle tendencies of Mother Nature and her ever ready willingness to change direction, size and power. When you’re only a stone’s throw from your favourite beach, it is nothing but a mild inconvenience when she decides not to play ball, but being hundreds of miles and several hours away from the beach can put a real test on this relationship.

To help remedy this situation, the nice folk at Ticket to Ride are hosting quarterly surf focussed shindigs at the Finisterre Store in Covent Garden. We don’t need much of an excuse to leave the office for a drink or two, so thought we may as well join our fellow wave fans for a Thursday night out in the West End.

Not only can you chat away about Ticket to Ride’s various surf trips but there’s also a plentiful supply of free beer from Jübel and Beavertown to help your social apprehensions drift away. We were also treated to a display of Jackson Customs cool scooters, perfect for the city and zipping around congested coastal towns.

Not only were Finsiterre happy to host, they were also offering a generous 20% off all their products for the duration of the evening.

They’ll be another meet up in a few months, so make sure you can an eye on Ticket to Ride and Wavelength, we’ll be back there with a few more surprises. And more free beer.
