Ah, 2018 beckons, and surfing continues its march firmly in the direction of all that is fun and entertaining.

After almost two decades of everyone taking playing in sea with their surfboards really really seriously, the last few has ushered in a new era of soft tops, board transfers, supsquatches, hydrofoils, and all sorts of asymmetrical, finless and funny looking craft.

Hallelujah, what joy. We love super high performance shit, big barrels, crazy airs, beautiful arcs, and of course, the WSL, but we also love diversity because, and I always say it (as I witter on about this subject often) variety, my fine friends, is the spice of life.

Brad Domke has long been an advocate of this anything goes approach to wave riding, and he’s just dropped a new clip which gives JOB a run for his money, featuring some crazy board transfers to shorebreak kegs. Sure, it ain’t the most stylish thing you’ve ever seen, but there’s something joyous about waves that hollow breaking that close to the sand, with a bloke sliding through them on a finless 4’4.

The spot is Cyclinders, a throaty wedge in Newport and Domke said this is the best he’s seen it in 15 years.
