A solid swell and strong off shores made for tough conditions at Day 1 of the BUCS surfing competition.

Despite a few rescues and broken boards, the event saw big heat totals and strong surfing from the likes of Rhys Poulton, Chris Kelly and Jamie Banks, all accompanied by the usual student enthusiasm for which BUCS is so well known. Both the swell and wind seem to be holding strong for tomorrow, which will see the girls and boys round two take to the water.
