day 3 of the BUCS Surf Championships

The sun finally made an appearance for the Finals day of BUCS, which once again saw challenging surf conditions, with persistent onshore winds and lots of white water.
The day began with the girls, who opted for inside double ups, which provided enough potential to see Lizzie Lewis, Gabbie Rowe, Jessica Henry and Mollie Eskine through to the final. Eventually it was Gabby Rowe from FXU, who had been a stand out all event, who walked away with the win.
The boys competition saw a string of hotly contested quarter and semi final heats, which culminated in an exciting final between Chris Schnitzer, Rhys Poulton, Bradley Ferguson and Jack Mander. In the end it was an in form Rhys Poulton, from Swansea University, who took the win, putting together an impressive 8.5 in the final. Rhys’ win also brought Swansea Uni up into first place in the team competition with FXU and Exeter placing second and third respectively. Congratulations too all the competitors who took on the challenging conditions over the weekend and we look forward to seeing you again next year!
