Dylan Graves Explores The World Of Weird Artificial Waves

In episode four, series two of Dylan Graves’ weird waves extravaganza, he takes off around the world to explore wave pools past, present and future.

While both quantity and popularity have exploded over recent years, high performance wave pools have been around for donkey’s years. Remember the Siam wave park in Tenerife? Or the Japanese Ocean Dome, built in ‘93, surfed by a very fresh faced Julian Wilson and Owen Wright back in 07, just before it closed?

Then there was the Malaysian pool, surfed by Taj Burrow in 05 surf flick ‘Fair Bits’, which Graves revisits here along with MFeb, before sinking his teeth into some more modern tech in Waco and sampling the future in Palm Springs. 

Over the course of the journey he gets a rudimentary lesson in wave pool science and grills everyone from random So Cal locals to Chippa Wilson on what they reckon to the mechanised surfing revolution.
