Grom Files – Bertie Norman

Today’s Grom is Bertie Norman, another one in a long line of talent coming out of Bude at the moment, and at only nine years old he has  a big future ahead of him.

When did you start surfing: I started surfing surf when i was about 5 when my dad and uncle would take me in and push me into the waves.

How Did you get into surfing: I got to into surfing because my bother stan was surfing and all my family was in surfing as well and once i tried i loved it.

Who are your surf buddies: My surf buddies are my bother, Rhys and Kit and also my dad and uncle.

What is your favourite wave: My favourite wave is the wedge in Newquay i surfed it for the 1st time in the rip curl comp this year it was sick.

Favourite international surfer: My favourite international surfer is Mick Fanning i really like to watch him surf and i was so happy when he became world champ this year.

Favourite Uk Surf:  My favourite uk surfer is Miles lee Hargreaves is lives in bude and i think he is a good surfer he has really good cut backs.

Describe you typical day at home: My typical day at home is getting up for 7.30am for school i go down stairs and run out side to check the surf in summerleaze , then i get on my skate board and skate to the check out point to check crooklets beach then i come back to have breakfast before i go to school, if the surf  is really good i nag my dad to see if i can have a day off to surf. After school i rush home to get in the surf if it is working or if not i go for a skate then home for tea if i have time i will skate some more then in for home work then bath and bed ready to it all again.

Whats the strong point of your surfing: My strongest point is my back hand snaps.

What is your surf plans for 2014: I will be training with joel at surf solutions though the year, hopefully getting some really good waves making my surfing better, really enjoying my surfing and having loads of fun with all my surf friends and brother and entering all the comps.

In 10 years what will you be doing: In 10 years time i would like to be travelling the world surfing the best waves with the best surfers in the the world and if i have time surfing on the ASP.

 Apart from surfing what are you into: I am into Skating, doing pranks on my brother and any thing extreme.

What are your surf board dimensions: My surf board is 4.8, 16 1/4,   1 1/3.

Where have surfed in the world: I have surfed in portugal and france and Australia.

Favourite international wave: Dee Why in oz

best wave in the recent trip to portugal: my best wave in portugal were in cabanas .

favourite food on the trip: brito in the green room they were amazing.

Who did the best surfing on the trip: I think kit did the best surfing on this trip he got some good waves.

What is best thing about surfing: the best thing about surfing is getting barrelled and having loads of fun with your friends and Bro.
