Rhys Barfield has been on the radar for a little while now, and gets better and better by the surf, looks like he was ripping in Portugal, and you can see shots in the latest mag, in the meantime here’s his little Q and A.

Name: Rhys Barfield

 Age: 16 years old

When did you first start surfing: At 11 years old.

 How did you get into surfing: Through my Dad.

 Who are your surf buddies: Dad, my little brother Luke who has just started (watch out!), Chris, Ferg, Ben and Cam.

 What is your favourite wave: Straddie Island, Australia.

Favourite international surfer: I go through stages of liking different people but at the moment its Julian Wilson.

 Favourite UK surfer: It varies i like Stokesy’s flow, Reubyns air game and Russel Winters passion.

 Describe a typical day at home: Wake Up, check the surf, local friends come round to get changed at my house, surf, come up for food, do a bit of skating or play some darts and then paddle back out.

Whats the strong point of your surfing:  I try to be as complete as i can but i like to think my backhand and power is my strong point.

What are you surf plans for 2014: I would like to get the chance to compete in the world games so i can push myself to get a solid result in the contest and compete against the best. I would also like to compete at the euros and try and match or better my last result by making the progression finals again. While developing my surfing and having fun.

 In 10 years what will you be doing: Hopefully I will still be surfing and travelling the world getting good waves and lots of barrels with my friends.

Apart from surfing what else are you into: I like editing clips, skating and keeping my fitness levels up.

 Surfboard dimensions: 5’10 x 18 3/16 x 2 1/4

Where have you surfed in the world: Australia, Barbados, Morocco, France, Spain, Portugal, Nicaragua.

Favourite UK wave: The left at Haryn.

 Favourite international wave: Straddie Island, Australia.

Best waves on the recent Portugal trip: Castelejo.

Favourite food on the trip: Indian.

 Who did the best surfing on the trip: Reubyn Ash.

 what is the best thing about surfing: Its fun!
