Independent Schools Surf Champs returns for third year

The Independent Schools Surf Championships is coming back to Perranporth, Cornwall this October 21st – 24th for the third year running and is set to be a banger with a record number of competitors entering the unique event.

The three day surf festival has gained more of an educational surf camp reputation rather than an old school out and out surf competition, with entrants gaining a mixture of surf coaching sessions, evening workshops, and a variety of handicapped competitive formats, which allow any level of surfer to compete in a fair playing field.

“Our first event ran in 2015 with about 30 competitors and rave reviews from all involved. The concept was well and truly proved! We ramped this up to 50 competitors in 2016 and are already going bigger and better this year, with many great personalities involved, which will make it a truly unique event for everyone taking part” said Event Director Linley Lewis.

All entrants receive two surf coaching sessions on a 5:1 basis with former British Surf Champion Sam Lamiroy, who will supported by a team of top UK surfers, as well as a selection of other coaches. Students will then receive a full iAM band assessment before surfing it out over two heats for an open leaderboard. The competitors will then have their scores “Levelled” depending on what iAM band they are for a separate trophy.

In-keeping with the educational nature of the event there will be evening workshops and Q&A sessions in the Seiners Hotel with top Industry Stalwarts.

The event is being hosted by Ticket to Ride at their Perranporth surf school. There are still places available. Please apply here.
