Donald Trump’s controversial seawall, that faced stiff worldwide opposition, has finally been binned thanks to over 100,000 people signing a petition against its construction.

“Under growing international pressure, Trump International Golf Links (TIGL) has rescinded their proposal for the 3km seawall at Doughmore Beach, Ireland.” Save The Waves reported.

Wavelength first reported on the controversial project back in October, where we learned that Trump intended to build a very big wall, spanning nearly two miles and built from over 200,000 tons of rock all dumped in a sensitive coastal area along Doughmore’s sand beach.

Nick Mucha, Save The Waves’ Director of Programs warned “Trump will end up destroying a public beach to save his golf course which is only for private members and the long term reality is that without the dunes replenishing the sandbars there is the real chance that the entire beach may disappear forever.”

Fortunately, thanks to over 100,000 of you, the petition against the wall gathered huge momentum at a very quick rate leaving the po-faced president-elect with little option but to throw the towel in.

“Trump’s decision to walk away from the seawall proposal is a huge milestone for the #NatureTrumpsWalls campaign and we are very excited by this decision. We are proud to have brought worldwide attention to this issue and save Doughmore Beach from their ill-conceived proposal.” said Mucha.

Save The Waves added “The work of #NatureTrumpsWalls is not over yet. While this is a strong victory against the wall proposal, we will remain highly engaged in evaluating the merits and negative impacts of the new proposal and will activate alongside our partners to minimize the impacts of any proposal at Doughmore Beach.”
