A Few Sessions In Ireland With Gearoid Mcdaid

Constantly travelling and competing, often to locations with worse waves than your mates are enjoying back home, can feel like a real grind and for Irishman Gearoid Mcdaid, the summer comp circuit has been a pretty thankless one, landing only a few decent results.

However it does make coming home just as the first swell of Autumn is lighting up your local coastline all the more rewarding.

‘I’ve been traveling for the whole summer getting pretty skunked with waves’ he told us, ‘so to come home and see a little bump in the charts was pretty exciting.’

The edit you see here is thrown together from four sessions, at different waves around Gearoid’s home in county Sligo.

‘None of these days were epic just really really fun. They’re the days you get when you put in the time here and there’s no one really here.’ he said of the surfs featured.

Although it’s been a fairly consistent start to the season, the real juice is yet to come and Gearoid tells us he is planning to stay at home till the end of this year and work on an edit featuring the best days from the winter.

As one of Europe’s best young barrel riders and most underrated high performance guys living on one of the most wave rich coastlines in the Norther Hemisphere, we’re very much already looking forward to seeing the results of G-man’s winter.
