Jordy Smith Surfing The 2020 Olympic Beach Location

Jordy Smith recently took a little jaunt to Japan, where signed he autographs, surfed a beachie and remained perpetually bemused by the cultural chasm that greeted him.

Perhaps, aside from Smith’s Pilkington-esque musings, the most interesting thing about the clip is the fact that ‘Shiba’, the stretch of coast Jordy is surfing, will be the location for the 2020 Olympics. Based on the spot and the time of year, many had already speculated that the games will most likely take place in fun, two to three foot beach break waves, however it’s interesting to see a top level surfer navigating the line up at the actual beach in question.

Whilst many will undoubtedly contest that its ridiculous to crown the surfer who surfs best on the day, in what most of the surf world would term seriously average conditions, ‘the best in the world’, it can’t be argued that such a line up does not present a level playing field for all the competing nations, as you can bet every single one of them has access to a similar wave at home to practice on.
