Local Surfer Dies After Being Pulled From The Sea In The Outer Hebrides

A local surfer has died after being pulled from the sea in the Outer Hebrides.

The man, who has not yet been named in the media, was surfing Barvas beach on the isle of Lewis’ north-west coast yesterday morning when the tragedy occurred.

The Hebrides are currently being pummeled by a solid westerly swell, with a local wave buoy reporting wave heights of up to 13 feet around the time of the incident.

Local reports state the man was pulled from the sea, before being attended to by emergency services, who airlifted him to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, doctors were unable to resuscitate him and he was pronounced dead on arrival. Beyond that, little more has been reported at this time.

According to a fellow local surfer, the deceased man is well known and beloved within the tight-knit Lewis surf community and our thoughts are with all of them, as well as his friends and family at this horrible time.
