Locals Take On Newly Discovered Mutant Rio Slab

Here’s what went down when four Brazilian chargers took on a newly discovered mutant slab near Rio.

It takes a certain sort of person to look out at solid 6-8 foot waves, gurgling over a shallow shelf of rock, turning inside out and frequently shutting down and say ‘Yep! lets give that a crack.’ It turns out that Pedro Calado, Stephan Figueiredo, Paulo Curi are exactly those sort of rare folk.

Lensman Igor Hossmann has been swimming out and taking snaps of empty waves out on this slab, situated somewhere off the coast of Rio, for several months, and when the right combo of conditions finally popped in the second week of August, he managed to convince a few pals to have a go at towing it.

What you see below is the culmination of their efforts; some valiant drops, hectic wipeouts and absolutely crazy wave formations, which look like they will never be truly tamed:
