London Surf / Film Festival x Reef Shorties go Live

Autumn is here, order is restored! To get everyone frothing for the season ahead London Surf / Film Festival has just revealed the longlist for the 6th Edition of the LS/FF x REEF Shorties short film contest, the hotly contested ‘homegrown filmmaking’ category at the heart of the international festival.

There are some 95 minutes of surf inspiration on the LS/FF site for your viewing pleasure. Assembled from the very cream of British and Irish filmmaking talent 19 shorts have made the grade, showcasing every aspect and angle of surfing – from adaptive rippers to road trippers from the world’s best to the freshest faces from tackling plastic problems or 40ft faces the Shorties represent a journey around all corners of the UK and Irish shorelines.

The London Surf / Film Festival needs your help in selecting the short films to be screened at this year’s festival and are asking the surfing community to support their favourite films by watching and voting for them.

“The art of storytelling is at the heart of surf culture and as writers talking story is close to our hearts,” says LS/FF Director Demi Taylor. “We founded The Shorties in 2011 to showcase the wealth of creativity on our shores and since it’s inception Shorties films and their filmmakers have gone on to make an impact on the global stage. This year the bar has been pushed even higher with submissions from established, emerging, professional and student creatives. We’re asking the surf community to get involved, to spread the word and support independent filmmaking.”

The shortlist is decided by a combination of peer votes cast by the wider surf community and the votes of the screening panel. The selected films will be showcased on the big screen as part of the 6th Annual London Surf / Film Festival, presented by REEF, 22 September – 1 October 2016 hosted across the capital and across two weekends.
