After a stressful couple of years on tour, Mick Fanning, decided to take some time off to chase perfect waves around the globe on his own terms, and so far, it seems to be working out pretty well for him.

His latest adventure takes him to an undisclosed location, to surf possibly the most perfect sand bottomed right hander on the planet, which reportedly has only ever been surfed by three other people.

I’ve got this wave and I really want you to surf it with us, but I’m scared it will leak

“My friend showed me this one little clip of the wave and I could see how insane it was,” says Mick in an interview with sponsor Ripcurl. “He was like ‘Pssst Mick, check this out… I’ve got this wave and I really want you to surf it with us, but I’m scared it will leak’.

“I knew he wouldn’t give it up easily. He wanted to keep surfing it alone with his mate. It took some back and forth to convince him, but eventually my friend trusted us. And then it was ‘go’ in a second. One text and it was on!”

What awaited the crew was an absolute keg fest at a lightening fast, 5km long right hander, named ‘The Snake’:

Whilst all the secrecy and mystique adds fantastically to the entertainment value, you can bet it will also act as a dog whistle to those (previously rather successful folk) who make a hobby of hunting down and broadcasting the locations of waves that pop-up in such web clips.

And despite the apparent lack of clues, I’d be surprised if you couldn’t find out exactly where this perfect peeler is, in some dark corner of the internet, if not on its front page, by the end of the week.
