Morocco’s Lesser Known Gems

Morocco enjoys far more surf tourism than any of its African neighbours, with everyone from teams of frothing beginners to the worlds best travelling free surfers regularly frequenting its shores to sample its world famous waves

Breaks like Anchor Point, Boilers and Draculas are well known amongst the surf fraternity, however there are many more, epic quality waves along its thousand miles of swell drenched coastline. We recently came across local photographer Yassine Belhouari, who was born and raised in Safi and now dedicates his time to shooting many of these lesser known spots. We asked him to assemble some of his favourite shots from this winter and tell us a bit more about himself:

“I started surf photography after spending a long time painting at The Academy Of Art in Düsseldorf, Germany.

“I first discovered photography in 2009, bought a camera and started shooting waves and landscapes, it took me a long time to figure out, but I began to really enjoy both taking images and editing them between shoots.

“Shooting in Morocco is a wild adventure. I love going shooting early in the morning when the wind is offshore and my favourite thing is getting my work printed and getting it shared worldwide.”
