Nazarè As Big As It Gets

The world’s biggest wedge has been repeatedly throwing big ugly teepee’s at a collection of the planet’s hardest chargers this past month.

Amidst chatter of a possible new world record from the session on Wednesday (which bafflingly seems only to have been captured by one person) the following clip quietly emerged featuring some of the crazy bombs ridden the following day.

“January has been a busy month for big wave surfers in Europe.” Said German hellman and Nazare stand out Sebastian Steudtner. “Many swells and big days were perfect preparation for everyone in the lineup. The forecast promised two huge days with surreal conditions for surfing. While Wednesday the first day of the swell was really windy and hard to surf, Thursday was a day to remember. Many of the best big wave surfers of the world including Axi Munian, Maya Gabeira, Benjamin Sanchis, Ross Clarke Jones, Hugo Vau, Sebastian Steudtner and Eric Rebiere caught some of the biggest waves ever ridden in Nazare, Portugal.”

It will be a while until the aficionados have done their complex calculations re: wave heights (ie stacking a tiny speck on top of himself on photoshop), so we can’t yet make any definitive ‘biggest ever ridden’ statements, although it looks like both Steudtner and Sancho’s waves could be contenders.
