Noah Lane, Scotland- The Best British Barrel Presented By Korev

We’re now half way through the shortlist of entries for our Best British Barrel competition; so far we’ve had Ritchie Mullins in an English drainer, Taz Knight in long Scottish funnel and two of Nic Von Rupp from a very fruitful strike mission. Todays clip features Noah Lane paddling into an absolute bomb at an infamous Scottish slab.

Noah Lane originally hails from the Gold Coast of Aus, however after visiting Ireland on a trip which he only intended to last a few weeks, he fell in love with the place and decided to stay. Several years on Noah is a stand out in the line-ups around his adopted home and can be regularly found encased in the regions best waves.

This barrel featured in his edit ‘Mar’, which chronicled a winter chasing swells on the fringes of the North Atlantic and it’s undoubtedly one of the heaviest waves we’ve ever seen paddled into in Britain. Here’s what Noah remembered of the session:

“We arrived at dawn and the swell was maxing and really raw. Huge bombs were detonating on the reef and it was pretty terrifying.

“I don’t think anyone was totally keen considering how big and thick it was but after half an hour of watching it the wind kicked up and everything started making more sense. We’d spent the few days before surfing with Ben Player and crew who were around shooting for his project and when him and Jack Johns hurtled past I knew I had to go for a look.

I felt like a pretty big whimp watching how much Jack and Ben were having it but was stoked to slide into a couple. Looking back I’d have to say it’s one of the best waves and best days of surfing I’ve  ever had in the UK.”
