Is Owen Wright Ready For The World Tour? A brand new free surfing clip featuring, back from injury, an in-form looking Owen Wright

Last year Owen Wright suffered a serious brain injury after wiping out at Pipe, resulting in a year of arduous recovery.

After posting back in July that he was on track for a full recovery, it has been announced recently that Owen is now close to being back to full health and has subsequently been awarded the WCT wildcard for 2017. Whilst it is still unclear whether he feels quite ready enough to accept it, Owen has entered the QS6000 competition currently underway in Newcastle.

“Since his injury in Hawaii in December of 2015, the WSL has worked closely with Wright, his physicians, and the sport’s medical committee to ensure that, if he were to return to competition, his health and wellbeing would take priority.” said WSL Commissioner Kieren Perrow in a press release.

“Owen has passed his own physician’s medical review and has received the WSL medical committee’s approval to compete in Newcastle,” added Perrow. “Following the Newcastle event, all parties will reconvene to discuss whether Owen wishes to accept the WSL wildcard to commence the 2017 CT season.”

Until then, we won’t know for certain whether Owen is full ready to take on the immense challenge that is the 2017 WCT. However, earlier this week a clip dropped featuring him during some warm-up free surfs in Aus, and he’s certainly back and looking just as sharp as ever in the smaller stuff:
