We are stoked to welcome Dead Man’s Fingers as proud partners of the Spring Classic Surf Invitational. It makes all kinds of sense. The unique spiced rum came to life in the Rum and Crab Shack, the legendary St Ives seafood joint. Then, from its new home in the Bristol and Bath Rum Distillery, it’s spread its tentacles, or fingers, throughout the UK and beyond.

So, who better to bring some added spice, and good vibes to our long weekend of surf, skate, and epic tunes at the Spring Classic? With the Surf Invitational being the key plank (all pun intended) of the festival, it brings the UK’s best surfers together for an epic, annual gathering of the tribe. 

With all the surfers riding a range of retro craft, this is more of a celebration than a competition; and that’s where Dead Man’s Fingers come in. They will be up at the festival site dishing out the perfect post-surf, ready to drink, rum-based refreshments for surfers and spectators alike (albeit those over 18) .

And once you get a taste for their range of spiced, white, passion fruit, and mango rums there is more good news. The festival site will also play host to their very own Rum Bar. Here, the best rum mixologists this side of Jamaica will be whipping up Dead Man’s Fingers treats all weekend.

Which neatly, or even with a dash of lime, brings us to our favourite rum-based post-surf cocktails. You see, surfers are a little bit like rum; beautifully versatile. They can be smooth and sophisticated, spicy or sweet, full of light, or deep and dark. Simply choose your tipple, raise a glass, and get ready for the best time of your life.

Dead Man’s Daiquiri

How can 50ml of Dead Man’s Fingers Spiced Rum, 25m of lime juice, 15 ml of sugar syrup, and two dashes of orange bitters, be dry, yet also sweet, refreshing, and quenching? All in the same mouthful? It’s the simplicity, stupid. Like surfing, there’s no need to overthink it. 

California Surfer

The famed Los Angeles bartender, and goofy footer, Eric Tecosky came up with this bad boy in the 1990s. But given it’s a Jägermeister, classic coconut rum and pineapple juice combo, you probably knew that. Like a perfect cutback, it’s slightly sweet and very fruity. A few of these and you’ll be in La La Land. 

Dead Man’s Passion Fruit Martini

Imagine post-surf, as the sun sets into the Atlantic and the surf-rock-bongo-jangle-punk of Los Bitchos filters from the stage through the Devon air, you have your first sip on a Dead Man’s Passionfruit Martini. The Passionfruit Rum, Passoa Passionfruit liqueur, vanilla syrup, and lime juice are perfect. The shot of sparkling wine on the side is pure genius. 

Dark and Stormy

The Dark and Stormy started in Caribbean waters, where rum was as plentiful as sailors. It’s a drink that was spat out by the sea, and so perfect for a festival perched on the edge of the Devon coastline. Simply add dark rum, ginger ale, and citrus. Let’s call it ‘The Devon and Stormy’. Then stare into the Atlantic, raise your glass, and praise yourself on all the incredible life decisions that have led you to this moment. No matter what your parents, boss, ex-partner, and cousin’s boyfriend said, you are a success!
