Red Bull Cape Fear Moves To New Location For 2018…

Do you recall the crazy Red bull Cape Fear event at Ours back in 2016?

Refresh your memory here:

It’s just been announced that this year the event will be doubling down on the carnage, moving across the Bass Strait to another mutant right hander; the infamous Shipstern Bluff in Tasmania.

The invitational event will see an impressive roster including  the likes of  Mick Fanning, Kai Lenny, JOB, Nathan Florence, Laurie Towner and 2016 event champion Russell Bierke, attempt to both paddle and tow into the Tassy beast. The waiting period will run from August 1st to December 1st to ensure optimal conditions for the comp.

Red Bull Cape Fear uses a unique, overlapping heat format. Five surfers will compete in four heats with the winner of each heat progressing straight to the final. The highest-placed surfer at the end of the final will be crowned the 2018 Red Bull Cape Fear champion.

Swells will be monitored from August 1 by Ben Macartney, Chief Swell Forecaster of CoastalWatch, and the event will only get underway when perfect conditions align.

If the green light is given, all 20 surfers will have 48 hours to make their way to Tasmania to compete in what will undoubtedly be  one of the world’s most entertaining surfing events.
