The Story Of A Man Living Off Grid In The New Zealand Wilderness

This is the story of Warrick Mitchell, who lives off grid, deep in one of the world’s most remote locations: Fiordland, New Zealand.

His cabin sits in one of the country’s oldest national parks, situated in the South West corner of New Zealand’s South Island. The dramatic landscape see’s tall mountains rise up above lush forested valleys, which stretch all the way to the coast. Warrick’s cabin is a four day walk from the nearest road and accordingly the area is only accessible to the outside world via plane or boat, if the conditions are right.

There’s plenty to keep the tight nit community of occupants who live here busy though- with fishing and hunting forming key parts of their subsistence lifestyle. When the conditions allow, there’s plenty of fun to be had too, with miles of perfect empty line ups, and a labyrinth of rivers to be explored by kayak.

‘It’s difficult living out here, but if you do whats needed and everything comes together its a really rewarding place to be’ says the clips main protagonist, and it certainly looks it.
