The French Connection – Surf Coaching and Photography Workshops

A surf holiday in France is well known for its fine wines, great food, relaxing vibes and some of the World’s best surfing beaches. The deep Bay of Biscay funnels North Atlantic swells straight onto the sand banks of Hossegor, Biarritz and Anglet. Combine this with year round warm temperatures, France is a must for any surfer, of any level.

The beaches around Hossegor and Capbreton are kept immaculate as they act as the hub of the European Surf Industry and play host to major surfing competitions throughout the year, including the Quiky Pro, which this year falls in the first couple of weeks of October and the Wavelength team will be heading down there to sip the aforementioned fine wine, put together issue 248 of the mag and are inviting you to join us.

We’ve taken on a massive French Gîte for a month and teamed up with surf holiday operators Ticket to Ride to offer two surf coaching weeks and a surf photography workshop week.

Week 1: Beginner/Intermediate Coaching – 10 spaces available – 25th September – 2nd October
Week 2: Intermediate/Advanced Coaching – 8 spaces available – 2nd – 9th October
Week 3: Surf Photography Workshop – 8 spaces available – 9th – 16th October

You can feel very out of the clique on a surfing holiday in SW France, whilst the Quiksilver Pro is in town. If you’re in the Wavelength House, you are the clique! You will be surfing the World Famous French beach-breaks with some of the World’s leading surf coaches every day, whilst mingling the evenings away with local and International Pros.

If you can at least comfortably catch and ride a wave and this sounds like a fun surf trip, then we want you to join us. We are keeping the groups small, at 10 surfers for intermediate week and eight surfers for advanced week. Our photography workshop has space for five, the perfect amount to get the most from our coaches and photographers.

Who’s Involved?

We’ve harnessed the collective surf expertise of seasoned professional Sam Lamiroy, excitable frothing youth Harry Timson and South Africa Team Coach Chris Bond to deliver two weeks of expert coaching in Europe’s finest surf resort.

We’re talking French Ski chalet style hospitality; in-house chef, epic food, chalet host, UK Pro’s & South Africa’s Junior Team Coach coaching, Wavelength photogs shooting the action, all with the back drop of the legendary Quiksilver Pro Surf Competition. This is a unique opportunity to sample the fruits of Hossegor and mingle with the surfing stars in true style.

Sam Lamiroy is a household name within European Surfing. Having competed amongst the cream of the crop, finishing a notable 16th in the World, winning multiple British and English Titles, coaching the O’Neill academy for numerous years, holding down solid sponsors throughout his career and essentially being a stalwart for an emerging UK Surf scene, Sam is one of the most qualified people to help you realise your surfing potential. Sam and his team will get you ripping.

Harry Timson is leading the pack of the current emergence of UK surfers making a name for themselves throughout the scene. Spending his Summers at the Volcom House in France and Winters in Indonesia, Harry’s surfing speaks for itself. He has been coached professionally since he was 8 years old and has been coaching himself for the past few years, passing on his wisdom to the next generation.

The Plan

We’re dealing with all the annoying bits, we’ve got the big old French house, a live in chef to sort your meals, transport to and from the beach, all you have to do is pack your boards and jump on a flight, from thereon in it’s all surf, sun, baguettes and vin rouge. Magnifique.

Saturday – Arrival Day
Pickup from Biarritz airport in private transfer, check into the Wavelength House, meet the crew, welcome Kronembourg/ Glass of Chardonney / Merlot and get stuck into the barbecue.

Sunday to Thursday
Keanos can blast away the vin rouge cobwebs with a dawny, just in time for an early, healthy breakfast followed by a morning surf session. Lunch is on the beach, followed by a second session with video and photo analysis. In the evening we head back to the Wavelength House to watch back the days surfing while our in house chef prepares a hearty evening meal.

Friday
On Friday we’ll nail two surf sessions as normal, in the evening Sam Lamiroy will make a an iAM Bands presentation, then it’s time for a final meal and a few beers.

Saturday – Departure Day
Time for a final dawny before airport transfers and your flight home.
