“Storms are certain to come, what matters is how we meet them,” Christina Gindl’s latest flick She In Storms embodies her own mantra. Given this short docu is 29 minutes documenting Austria’s first female big wave surfer, it’s no wonder there were many roadblocks across the way.
When injury rips away what once defined her, she is left in a lonely place of uncertainty. Questioning her worth and struggling with identity “I didn’t want to make a typical comeback film. She in storms came from the gap between how recovery can look from the outside and what it actually feels like when an injury takes away the thing around which you have built so much of your identity,” said Christina.
The documentary has a deeper narrative than just a big wave surfing storyline. It goes into the depths of the mental and emotional processes of finding your way back after harsh setbacks, as well as promoting a brilliant portrait of women in extreme sports.
