Tyler Warren Cruising At Home With Dolphins

California is full of hugely talented shapers, surfers and artists, but no one brings these three skill sets together like Tyler Warren.

Tyler began his artistic career screen printing his own tee’s in high school, which he would sell to his friends. Soon after, commissions started coming in, and before long the young Californian was being commissioned to design shoes, posters and clothes. In his early twenties Tyler learnt began oil painting, under the guidance of his uncle and created work which would later be exhibited all around the world.

During this period Tyler was also becoming renowned for his surfing prowess, with an artful style and a mastery of a whole range of craft gaining him international coverage. At 24, he was picked up by Billabong, to both surf and make art as an ambassador for the company.

Although he’d dabbled, and always liked to watch shapers crafting boards for him, It wasn’t until later that Tyler got properly into making his own boards. Now he runs a super successful shaping outfit from where he resides in South California.

“Shaping, just like surfing, is constantly evolving.” he said of his craft. “When I shape, I try to make boards that allow the surfers to have the most fun, because that’s what surfing is all about. For me, the most important design element is speed and I like to build boards that can generate speed on their own.”

Here we find him surfing around his home in San Onofre, testing out a variety of different self-shaped craft.
