WATCH: The Life & Times of Mick Fanning

Charting the incredible highs and lows of a surfing legend; from tragically losing his brother in a car crash, to winning events against his childhood heroes, that encounter with the shark and the death of his brother on the eve of his fourth world title showdown, this is the story of Mick Fanning.

Luke Gartside

8th April 2018

Here’s a brand new edit charting the life and times of Mick Fanning, released by Redbull to celebrate the three times world champ’s retirement.

The film begins with Mick’c childhood, growing up in a Sydney suburb two hours from the beach with four siblings and a dedicated mum, to Mick’s assent through the pro junior ranks. It tells the story of the tragic day Mick lost his older brother Sean, and how he dealt with the trauma by putting his everything into competing, coming away with a win at Bells in 2001, which he dedicated to the memory of Sean.

Soon he was travelling the world and surfing against his childhood idols on the dream tour. When a serious injury threatened Mick’s career, he re-evaluated his commitment and bounced back stronger than ever, ready to make a proper run for the title. From there Mick’s life became a whirlwind of title showdowns, further loss, incredible new adventures, and of course, that shark encounter.
