WATCH: Nole Cossart Builds & Surfs A 1930’s Kookbox

Luke Gartside

5th June 2020

When Nole Cossart found blueprints for a hollow wooden surfboard in a 1939 issue of Popular Mechanic, he couldn’t resist having a go at building one himself.

Here’s new short from Ben Weiland, created to accompany a feature in the new Surfer’s Journal, that documents the process.

The task is long, complex and at least a little arduous, however, you can certainly see the enjoyment such immersion in the craftsmanship and artistry of the process brings. And for any surfer bored with wrestling their more conventional craft in subpar waves, it looks to pose both novel challenges and novelty rewards once out in the lineup as well.
