Watch World Number One Jordy Smith Shredding At Surf Snowdonia

As the best surfers in the world descend on European shores, world number one Jordy Smith made a quick pitstop in Wales to sample Surf Snowdonia’s playful artificial peelers.

We caught up with Jordy briefly as he touched down in Wales to ask him if he was feeling the pressure ahead of the most important few months of his career so far.

“I’ve been really proud of myself to be honest, I’ve been really relaxed.” he said. “All you can do is try your best. You can’t do much more than that and that’s all I ask of myself.

“I want to make sure I enjoy the process of doing it, and wake up every morning and be stoked and thankful that I’ve got an opportunity like this. Nothing to lose and everything to gain. If I had told myself when I was a little kid that I was going to be in this position, I would of taken it win lose or draw. So yeah, just to be here I’ve already won.”

After 48 hours meticulously taking apart Snowdonia’s landlocked waves, Jordy reflected on is experience: “It was actually a good training session. The surf has been quite small in California so it was good to ride several waves in a short period of time.

“The wave is very different to waves in the ocean but it does offer a few fun sections to do some turns. It’s a pretty crazy place to be honest. I look around and it’s just surrounded by mountains and lots of greenery which is beautiful. I’m excited to be part of a time when artificial wave lagoons are launching across the world. The technology is continually improving and this is just the beginning.”
