This was not the first swell of the season for Nazare, but it sure was the first sustained, crazy run of swell out of Portugal’s favourite big wave juggernaut. And when it starts to get into the 40, 50, 60ft range, the world’s surf lenses point towards first peak out at Praia do Norte. Tim Bonython’s a name you probably know in the surf media landscape — and if it’s not, take some time to familiarise yourself. Tim’s been shooting swells for the better part of 50 years and has made it his mission to take in Nazare as and when it happens.
