A few weeks ago we teamed up with our friends at Korev lager to hunt down the best British barrel ever caught on film.

The final shortlist comprised entries which spanned the entire length and breadth of the UK, with everything from long funnelling lefts to solid short slabbing rights. The entries featured an eclectic mix of surfers from several generations and from all over the world.

You’ve voted in your droves, and after a final count up we’re excited to reveal that the winner is:

Ritchie Mullins

Newquay boy Ritchie Mullins was part of a large pro contingent during British surfing’s mid-noughties boom. He spent much of his career chasing swells around the British Isles, on missions that filled the pages of Britain’s premiere surf rags, as well as scoring video parts in MVP, Performing Monkeys and Substance. He has since retired from pro surfing and now captains boats, but can still be found shredding around the British Isles whenever he gets the chance.

This clip comes from Mr B’s seminal 2007 British surf flick ‘Substance’, and is one of a few incredible clips from the session that feature in the film. Here’s what Ritchie recounted of the session:

“That day was at the start of winter after a really bad summer of surf at home – like the worst summer ever for waves!

“That wave was towards the end of the session and I was feeling pretty knackered, but those days you stay out until the tide is too high or you get cramp so bad you’re forced to get washed back to land!

“It’s like, when you roll off the back of the wave before and first lay eyes on that perfect one, then realising you’re in the perfect spot and thinking I’M GOING! That’s the exciting part. Oli Adams was right next to me but I was on the inside and there was no way I was letting him get it, so taking the drop I was in full focus mode to not fuck it up, then I just waited at the bottom and let the wave overtake me before standing there chilling in the lounge ”

The runner up position was snatched by Noah Lane, with Taz Knight‘s entry taking the third spot. Congratulations to the winners, all who made the shortlist and thanks to everyone who voted!
