Wipeout of the Year is Absolutely Terrifying

The WSL pull together their very finest XXL Slams

Wavelength

31st March 2017

Since 1981

Big Wave
wipeout

Falling from a height of a five-story building while being hunted down by the biggest waves you have ever seen is no mean feat and it certainly isn’t pretty – the WSL have just released their nominees for the prestigious Wipeout of the Year XXL style and it is truly terrifying stuff.

These people who dedicate their lives to chasing the biggest swells around the globe are rightly celebrated for their courage and skill, but when it goes wrong, it goes horribly wrong and after watching these chaps you wonder if it is time to take a breather.

All five men in the running survived to tell the tale and miraculously escaped without serious injury. The runners and waves they tackled are Wilem Banks at Maverick’s, Nathan Florence at Maverick’s, Danny Griffiths at Shipstern Bluff, Tom Lowe at Nazaré and Rafael Tapia at Nazaré.

The winner will be announced on 29 April and will be $5000 richer for his efforts, so maybe sometimes it is worth taking a fall.
