The WSL Are Planning Some Big Surprises At The Kelly Slater Wave Pool Event

Earlier today Stab Mag reported that reputable sources had let them in on a few secrets about what awaits spectators at the upcoming Kelly Slater Wave Pool event.

The event, which still hasn’t been confirmed in an official capacity, is slated to take place from the 17-19th September. While the pool that’s hosting it looks pretty familiar by now, the waves breaking in it are apparently going to be entirely different to what we’ve seen online. In addition to adding a left, the team have apparently been re-contouring the bottom, in order to create a whole variety of new wave forms, complete with barrel, air and perfect carve sections.

According to Stab: “There’s a long wall at the takeoff with enough room to jam two-to-three turns, then the wave slows, sets up into the first barrel section (that on occasion will spit!), then returns to form for turns, potentially airs, and crescendos into a final draining tube and banger-begging end section.”

The wave will be longer, bigger and give the world’s best the space to string together, turn, barrel and air combo’s.

Rumour has it with the Hurley Pro Trestles on hold some of the world’s best have made the trek inland to sample the delights of the KSWP and catch a couple waves out there before the course of competitive surfing is (maybe) altered for ever.
