Watch: WTF Is Up With This Brazilian Death Slab?!

“This was one of the heaviest wipeouts I’ve ever had in my life, and definitely the heaviest one I’ve ever had in Brazil.” Lucas Fink is no stranger to heaving, Brazilian slabs. And when a giant Atlantic swell starts throwing up all kinds of mutant shapes, he’s always on the case.

Evidenced right here, in these few minutes of absolute carnage out of Brazil. Hit play above for the full vid.

This was shot earlier in the year, right at the start of Brazil’s swell window as the forecast lit up; with four or five back-to-back big swells lining up to crush these spots. As well as Lucas, a crew of hardcore locals stepped up to what most would bolt from.

It just so happened that Lucas had decided to take a step back from competing on the world skimboard tour this year. But what he thought would be a slower start to his year quickly got flipped upside down (quite literally). As he says: “Maybe the most active start I’ve ever seen in my career as a big wave surfer.”

Lucas managed to tame a couple of giants out at the ‘Shock’ — a deaf-defying right hand slab. A few scrapes and bumps, but hey, them’s the rules; you have to go all in to reap the rewards from places like this. There’s no easy road — maybe that’s what keeps drawing this crew back.

Some ridiculous waves were ridden over this swell event by all of the crew. Honourable mentions to the likes of Lucas Chumbo, Felipe Cesarano, Gabriel Sampaio, and of course; Lucas Fink for just sending it.

All in all, with still a good few months to go in Brazil’s swell calendar. What will you decide to do the next time one of these mutant swells sets eyes for the slabs? Will you grab your crew and go, or will you turn and run?
