Waves Worth Losing Your Job For: Morroco Sees Best Waves In A Decade

Last Wednesday saw flawless conditions and a solid swell grace Morocco’s many epic point breaks.

Sand bottomed grinders, almost as long and throaty as Mick’s (the new benchmark), greeted a crew of locals and visitors as they arrived at Safi, a spot that Tom Caroll dubbed one of the best in the world a few years ago after a trip to North Africa. The line up included serial traveller Alex Gray, who was reportedly snagging the best waves of the day, two of which feature in the clip below.

Here’s how the day panned out for Yassine Belhouari, who filmed the clip:

“Its been a long time and a lot of patience waiting for these waves. I even lost my job for it, but it was worth it. Its’ a really long walk to the spot where Alex was surfing in the morning, and he was the only one out.”

“Then later the waves cleaned up and were breaking perfectly at a different spot, So I walked out there, and got in position and managed to shoot some unforgettable barrels.”

“It’s the best day I’ve seen in the last eight years or more”
