Sixteen Year Old Surf Prodigy’s Solo Wavegarden Session

Recently the folks at WaveGarden invited 16 year old Brazilian surf prodigy Mateus Herdy to drop into their our R&D demo centre in Spain to trial the Wavegarden Cove on his new Pukas surfboard.

Rated as one of the most talented junior surfers in the world, the young upstart was able to put his equipment through its paces in a solo session. The son of Alexandre Herdy and the nephew of Guilherme Herdy, both former pro’s and surf legends in Brazil, Mateus was in Europe for the first time competing in the WQS in Zarautz.

Whilst in the first teaser clip we mostly saw the ‘slabbing keg’ setting in action, Mateus puts different incarnations of the wave through its paces with a mixture of finely placed carves and airs, which although it’s apparent he can off any section, certainly shows off the amazing potential for variety that the new technology offers.

For those unfamiliar with Wavegarden, they have been developing man-made waves since 2005 and recently launched our latest technology, the Wavegarden Cove, capable of producing up 1000 waves per hour. Find out more on their website here.
