Steph Gilmore Styling in ‘Vacation Island’ By Morgan Maassen

Last year Steph’s short film ‘The Tempest’ was hailed by many as one of the best web clips of the year, and now she’s back with another banger, produced by one of the world’s most celebrated surf lensmen, Morgan Maassen.

In this new offering, titled ‘Vacation Island’ we find her cruising on a wave-storm, high-lining and throwing buckets, all with her trademark style and smile. It was filmed last winter at Rocky Rights and is a truely joyous watch for a Saturday afternoon.

When we caught up with Steph in France last year she told us that her priorities were shifting more towards wanting to produce really amazing clips.

“Surfing is one of the most beautiful incredible things to film and present to people.” she said “It’s really not presented to people as well as it could be on a regular basis, so to be able to put together a piece of artistic surf film has definitely become a priority for me recently.”

“I think for woman’s surfing in particular, there’s not much female surfing on film and I think when it’s captured right, with the right music, it’s beautiful, it’s sexy and it’s romantic and it’s fucking cool and that’s the way it should be presented.” [Read the full interview here]

At the time of that interview, Steph, by her own extremely high standards, was struggling a little on the rankings. However, despite her apparent shift in focus towards free-surfing, which has seen her travelling the world this year, filming for Taylor Steele’s upcoming film, Proximity, she’s back jostling for a world title, reclaiming her spot as the dominant force women’s surfing, both in and out of a contest vest.
