The Best Surf Holidays To Give Yourself A Proper Break This Winter

Surfing in Sri Lanka

Good waves are better than bad waves.  Surfing in warm water is preferable.

The debate over man-made waves compared to natural ocean waves is one we would never had expected to be having back in the 80’s. But here we are, you can check out our recent review of the Bristol Wave here. It certainly makes you wonder, what debate will be having in another 40 years time?

Given that we are on the subject of surf travel. Where will the next frontier be? Is there anywhere left to explore and might we even find surf in space?

For now, lets come back to earth on this one and quickly conclude the weigh up between travelling to warmer waves in winter or staying at home to surf our favourite local waves during those ever consistent winter swells is a good debate to be having.

The choice; good cold waves at home or potentially better and definitely warmer waves overseas?

“This is exactly the kind of win-win scenario that we should all be finding ourselves in as regularly as possible.”

Before we dive into our winter surf trip destinations, for those deadset on staying at home this winter, as we’re sure you already know, your life will be made considerably better by investing in a decent wetsuit. You can check out all the best winter wetsuits here.

However, our view is that getting good surf whilst enjoying a bit foreign sunshine during winter is well recommended.

“As is the case with so many things in life, balance is the answer.”

So whilst that picture of a bearded man (or woman)  standing in the freezing cold, with an iced-up beard, is going to resonate with the adventurous  and environmentally conscious surfer, that is all too happy to opt for the overtly punishing past time that is cold water surfing, picture them in a pair of boardies (or bikini) surfing somewhere warm and tropical. Surely even they will agree that surfing world class waves  in tropical surrounds plays a very real part in a good life well lived.

Here is our pick of some of the best surfing holidays (other than simply saying Indo) for you to enjoy this winter.
