Following our barnstorming summer series of outdoor cinema at Watergate Bay, we’re excited to announce we’ll be hosting the Wavelength Surf Film Festival on Saturday 4th September, showcasing the latest and greatest releases in surf action and documentary. Tickets are now live! Get yours here.
Our giant 10m LED screen will offer the opportunity to enjoy the films as they were meant to be seen in vivid high definition, surrounded by fellow surf fans, against a spectacular coastal backdrop. And, there’ll be much more on offer than just the movies, with live DJs, food and a fully stocked bar bringing the festival feel to our clifftop site.
We’ve handpicked a lineup featuring the very best of contemporary surf filmmaking, from critically acclaimed international releases to locally produced independent shorts. Overall, it’s a heady mix of engaging docs and high-octane bangers.
As autumn draws closer, the event is the perfect opportunity to get together with your mates after a long year, catch up, grab a beer, roll out a blanket and relax.

We’ve kept things simple with just one ticket type, but, as with all our cinema nights, you can either pull up a deck chair and watch from the picnic pass area directly in front of the screen or drive up and take your place in the drive-in section and enjoy from the comfort of your own vehicle. Doors open at 1400, so be sure to rock up in good time if you want a prime spot near the front.

UK Premiere: Water Get No Enemy
Starring Damien Castera & Arthur Bourbon.
Fifteen years after the end of a civil war that ravaged Liberia, the West African country is slowly rising from the ashes. In this feature-length documentary, professional surfers and filmmakers Damien Castera and Arthur Bourbon take the opportunity to visit, surf the plethora of perfect waves and meet former child soldiers who have swapped their assault rifles for surfboards and are looking towards a brighter future.
UK Premiere: Over The Edge
Starring Matt Bromley.
In a follow-up feature to his critically acclaimed Risky Ripples series, Over The Edge follows big wave surfer Matt Bromley as he chases swells around the world in search of the ride of his life. Expertly directed by award-winning filmmaker Andrew Kaineder and featuring jaw-dropping action from Jaws, Mavericks, Nias, Mullaghmore, and Dungeons, this is one not to be missed on the big screen.
UK PREMIERE: Sambarama 3
Starring Alexandre Wolthers, Caio Teixeira, Fellipe Ditadi, Marina Carbonell and Pedro Scansetti
Following a crew of Brazil’s best loggers, who, like their shortboarding counterparts, are among the world’s dynamic, as they set off north to expand their horizons, finding heavy beachies and spinning points along the way. Come for the great surfing and feel-good vibes, stay for the end section, which features an endlessly long and impossibly smooth ride on the Pororoca river bore.
UK PREMIERE: Not Far From Here
Starring Matt Meola, Nate Yeomans, CJ Hobgood & more.
The fourth full-length surfing and fishing film from Salty Crew, Not Far From Here checks in with 21 members of the team, scattered in all four corners of the globe during the pandemic, as they hang up the travel bags and score close to home. There’s crazy airs in Maui with Matt Meola, massive bombs down under with Zac Haynes-Love and Jerrome Forest, stylish shredding from Chris Zaffis, purist energy from Hobgood brothers and plenty more!

UK PREMIERE: Time Is Now
Starring Andy Nieblas, Ria Mondo & Danilk Afonso
Filmed in West Africa, Time is Now is an impassioned call to action, delivering an important message through the medium of surf and visual storytelling on the need to conserve the planet and pay attention to the voices of indigenous communities.
Thank You Mother
Starring Torren Martyn
Torren Martyn and Ishka Folkwell’s award-winning Thank You Mother is a sincere cinematic celebration of surfing and simplicity. Narrated by Alby Falzon – director of the seminal Morning Of The Earth – the film begins as a story about the act of creating a surfboard and the art of riding it and morphs into a meandering pontification on creativity, friendship and connection.
Shot on location in South Africa, Indonesia and Australia, it features Torren’s signature blend of stylish and powerful surfing which combines with a compelling narrative and beautiful cinematography to create what is, in our opinion, one of the best surf films of recent years.
Dark Hollow
Starring Dion Agius, Craig Anderson & Chippa Wilson.
The latest in a long line of mind-bending collaborations from Dion Agius and filmer Joe G, Dark Hollow features unparalleled cinematography and radical surfing from an all-star cast.
Inspired originally by Dion’s desire to both showcase and promote the protection of his home state of Tasmania, over several years the film morphed to also include segments shot in Japan and Indonesia. The core aim though remained the same, with Globe and Dion pledging to donate a sizeable sum to a Tasmania based environmental foundation following the release of the film and the associated clothing capsule.
With mesmerising visuals and incredible action, this is another from our billing we highly recommend watching on the big screen, with loud surround sound, rather than on your phone.

Stone Cold Not Sober II
Starring Harry Timson.
Filmed immediately prior to the pandemic, this is the hotly anticipated follow up to Harry Timson’s 2020 Blighty-based banger Stone Cold Not Sober. Kicking off in warmer climes this time around, we find the Newquay ripper pulling in and punting high at tropical reef passes around Sumbawa, before whipping home just as the border closed and squeezing in a quick autumn mission to the north coast of Scotland. Produced by independent filmmaker Ollie Treacher, we’re looking forward to watching the local boys’ work up on the big screen overlooking the coastline where it all began.
