WATCH: The Mythical Merseyside Ferry Wave Liverpool's answer to Chicama!

Luke Gartside

8th July 2018

Recently a clip popped up on facebook showing the mythical Liverpool bay ferry wave, breaking down a sand bar in the river Mersey estuary.

The clip, posted by the cleverly named SUP North, shows a series of waves reeling off for a couple hundred metres, through a muddy rive estuary, with Liverpool just visible in the background. As far as we can tell, only a few have attempted to surf the wave, with two videos on youtube featuring a Scouse SUP’er called Alan Taylor constituting the only documented attempts.

Sure, it’s brown, small and a bit too fast, but this video must surely look appealing to the wave starved surfers of Liverpool, and if the Severn Bore is anything to go by it’ll be mobbed within the month!
