Up-And-Coming Grom Barnaby Cox’s Cornish Winter

Fifteen year-old Barnaby Cox has just dropped a brand new edit, from a winter spent hunting for sheltered corners in a storm battered North-Cornwall.

Barnaby is part of a increasingly successful young contingent from Bude, making their way up the British rankings, following in the footsteps of talented predecessors such as Jobe Harriss, the Ash brothers and Liam Turner.

After spending the year garnering success in British comps, including a win in the U16’s at the British Nationals, Barnaby dedicated his winter to working on and improving his surfing:

“I just want to get better all the time and have as much fun as I can doing so.” he said.

“I do something for my surfing every day, other than actually surfing, whether it be go to the gym, or making a little edit for my Instagram. I always feel like I am improving in different areas. In general I wanted to get better in big waves and barrels this winter, because in Cornwall we are pretty sheltered from that.

“The waves at home have been on and off all winter really. I started my winter in Portugal, had some good days (ironically missing some pumping waves at home) to then come back to Bude, where it was so cold and huge and onshore for weeks.

“Then into February and the two storms named Doris threw up some opportunities for the points and sheltered beachies all around home. It’s been my first winter properly surfing the points and it’s been so good for my backhand, we’re so lucky to have a rocky coastline and some of the best waves in England, when it comes together.
